The Fitbit Charge 6 came out in autumn 2023 and is still Google’s current Charge in October 2026: the Google Store sells it at $159.95 and lists no Charge 7. Since then two things have changed for owners and buyers. The Fitbit app became the Google Health app in May 2026, and Google added the screenless Fitbit Air at $99.99. This page answers the questions people ask about the Charge 6 now, with Google’s own figures and dates.

How this page is compiled. Figures and dates come from Google’s own store, help center and announcement pages, checked in October 2026. We have not lab-tested the Charge 6, and nothing here is a measured result.

Quick answers

How long will Google support the Fitbit Charge 6?

Google’s security updates page lists the Charge 6 as guaranteed security updates until at least February 2028. Google defines this as at least two years after the device is last sold on the Google Store or Fitbit.com, and marks the date as one that may be extended while the Charge 6 is still on sale. For comparison, the Fitbit Air is listed until May 2028.

Does the Fitbit Charge 6 work with the Google Health app?

Yes. Google says that starting 19 May 2026 the Fitbit app became the Google Health app, and Fitbit Premium became Google Health Premium. Charge 6 owners use the Google Health app; Google’s help page names the Charge 6 when describing features that carry over. If your account is still a Fitbit account rather than a Google Account, Google says you must move it to Google to use the new app.

Does the Fitbit Charge 6 have Google Maps and Google Wallet?

Yes. Google’s launch announcement says the Charge 6 has Google Maps and Google Wallet. Google apps on the Charge 6 need a compatible phone within Bluetooth range, and are not available in every country.

Does the Fitbit Charge 6 have music storage?

No. It has YouTube Music controls only, which Google says need a compatible phone within Bluetooth range and a paid YouTube Music Premium subscription.

Does the Charge 6 have built-in GPS?

Yes. Google’s specification page lists built-in GPS and GLONASS, so it can record a run or ride without your phone. The Fitbit Air does not have its own GPS.

Do I need a subscription?

No. Google Health Premium is optional at $9.99 a month; the free tier covers activity, sleep and health tracking. Some features, including the AI Google Health Coach, are Premium-only.

Is the Fitbit Charge 6 still worth buying in 2026?

Yes, for the right buyer. It is the cheapest Google tracker with a screen, built-in GPS, ECG and contactless payment, and it has guaranteed security updates into 2028. The case against it is age: the hardware is three years old. If you want a newer, cheaper Google tracker and do not need a screen or GPS, the Fitbit Air is the better fit; if you want a screen and two weeks of battery, see the budget GPS watches in our fitness tracker comparison.
