The best smartwatch for a triathlete in late 2026 is the Garmin Forerunner 970 for most people: it has built-in triathlon, duathlon and brick profiles, open-water swim metrics, running power and multi-band GPS for $749.99. iPhone users should look at the Apple Watch Ultra 4, and anyone racing long course on a budget should look at the COROS Pace 4 Pro.
How this page is compiled. Specifications and prices come from each maker’s own pages, checked in October 2026. Battery figures are the makers’ claims. We have not tested these watches, and nothing here is a measured result.

Garmin lists triathlon, duathlon, brick, pool triathlon and swim/run multisport profiles, open-water swim metrics including SWOLF, and running power on the Forerunner 970. It also has a 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen, sapphire lens and up to 15 days in smartwatch mode. It covers every part of a race in one watch.
At $249, the Pace 4 is the cheapest watch here. COROS says it is built for road and triathlon training. It records pool and open-water swims, supports running-power-based plans, and claims 41 hours of All-Systems GPS and 19 days of daily use. At 32 g with the nylon band, it is also the lightest watch on this list.
The Ultra 4 has a Multisport workout, pool and open-water swim views, running power and dual-frequency GPS. It works only with an iPhone. Apple claims up to 50 hours of normal use, but workout tracking is shorter than on the dedicated sports watches: up to 18 hours as standard, and up to 45 hours in Max Extended Workout mode. Running form metrics are not available in the extended modes.
Garmin claims up to 80 hours in its Normal activity mode and up to 60 hours in Max Accuracy mode, or more with solar charging. It also claims up to 36 days in smartwatch mode. The Enduro 4 keeps Garmin’s triathlon profiles and open-water metrics. Its trade-off is a memory-in-pixel (MIP) display rather than AMOLED. The COROS Pace 4 Pro is a cheaper alternative: COROS claims 60 hours of GPS and lists a dedicated triathlon mode.
Both are rated to 100 m, the highest rating among these picks. Apple rates the Ultra 4 for swimming, snorkelling, scuba and high-speed water sports, and advises against use below 40 m. The Suunto Race 2 costs less ($499), adds preconfigured multisport modes and open-water swim distance, and claims up to 55 hours in its multi-band Performance mode.

Among these picks, the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Suunto Race 2 have the highest rating at 100 m, followed by the Garmin Enduro 4 at 10 ATM. The Forerunner 970 and both COROS Pace models are rated 5 ATM, and their makers list them for pool and open-water swimming. Ratings describe static pressure tests, so check each maker’s guidance on diving, jumping in and hot water.
For racing, yes. A multisport or triathlon mode records swim, T1, bike, T2 and run as one activity with separate splits, and a single button press moves you to the next leg. Without one, you have to stop and start separate activities during transitions. Every watch on this list offers a multisport or triathlon mode, except the COROS Pace 4, which COROS describes for triathlon training without naming a dedicated triathlon mode on its product page.
Check the hours against your expected finish time with the settings you plan to use. Multi-band and always-on display modes use more power, and the makers’ figures are best-case claims.
Garmin, Apple, Suunto and COROS all list running power for the relevant models. Suunto also supports a Stryd sensor.
