Pick an Oura Ring if you use an iPhone, because the Samsung Galaxy Ring does not support iPhone. If you own a Samsung Galaxy phone and dislike subscriptions, the Galaxy Ring is the simpler buy: there is no monthly fee, and features like the Energy Score and double-pinch gestures are built for Galaxy phones. Oura gives you more health insights and more sizes, but it needs a membership costing $5.99 a month or $69.99 a year to unlock them.

How this page is compiled. Features and prices come from each maker’s own pages, checked in October 2026. Battery figures are the makers’ claims. We have not tested these rings, and nothing here is a measured result.

Which models are current: Oura launched the Oura Ring 5 in 2026 and still sells the Oura Ring 4. Samsung still sells the original Galaxy Ring. Samsung’s US site does not list a Galaxy Ring 2.

Which is better for…

iPhone users

Oura. Its app runs on iOS and Android. Samsung lists support only for Samsung Galaxy phones, so an iPhone is not an option for the Galaxy Ring.

Samsung Galaxy phone owners

The Galaxy Ring fits best here. The Energy Score insights, Wellness Tips and Galaxy AI features need a compatible Galaxy phone, the Samsung Health app and a Samsung account. Double-pinch gestures need One UI 6.1.1 or later, and Find My Ring shows the ring’s last location on a map.

Other Android phones

Oura. It officially supports Android in general. Samsung’s US pages describe support only for Samsung Galaxy phones and list several features that need one, so expect less from a Galaxy Ring on a Pixel or another brand.

Sleep tracking

Both track sleep. Oura gives a daily Sleep score and a Readiness score, tracks HRV, blood oxygen and temperature trends, and flags breathing disturbances during sleep. The Galaxy Ring tracks sleep using heart rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature, and gives sleep coaching tips. Its snore detection works only when the phone is within 2 feet of you. Neither maker lists an FDA-cleared sleep apnea feature for these rings.

Workouts

The Galaxy Ring detects walking and running automatically once Auto Workout Detection is on, and it can pair with a Galaxy Watch for more detail. Oura tracks activity and movement all day and adds Cardio Capacity and Cardiovascular Age. Neither ring has a screen for live workout stats.

No subscription

The Galaxy Ring. Samsung charges nothing after purchase. Oura says the ring and app still work without a membership, but the insights and data become much more limited.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Galaxy Ring work with iPhone?

No. Samsung describes setup, pairing and support only on Samsung Galaxy smartphones running Android 11 or later. Health data syncs to the Samsung Health app through a Samsung account.

Can you use Oura without a membership?

Yes, but with far less to see. Oura says the ring and app keep working without one, though the insights, personal health data and benefits are much more limited. New members get the first month free, and you can export your data as a CSV file.

Is the Oura Ring 5 worth it over the Oura Ring 4?

The Ring 5 is thinner and lighter, Oura calls it waterproof rather than water resistant, and its battery claim is a day longer. The Ring 4 costs $50 less and comes in more sizes, including 4, 5, 14 and 15, which the Ring 5 does not offer.

Do these rings detect AFib or diagnose conditions?

Neither maker lists AFib or irregular rhythm detection for these rings. Samsung says its heart rate software is not meant for diagnosing disease. Health concerns belong with a clinician.

How do I find my size?

Both brands send a free sizing kit and recommend wearing the sample ring for at least 24 hours, including overnight. Oura Ring 5 sizes are not the same as Oura Ring 4 sizes, so measure again if you are upgrading.
